Cuprous iodide (CuI), cuprous chloride and cuprous bromide are three commonly used cuprous halides, all of which are white solid. Cuprous iodide is less sensitive than cuprous bromide and cuprous chloride, and iodine is decomposed under strong light. Exists in nature as iodide copper. Cuprous chloride and cuprous bromide can be prepared by reacting with copper in an acidic solution of the corresponding bivalent copper salt. Cuprous iodide can be prepared by adding Cu2Chemicalbook+ to a solution of potassium iodide. Phenylcopper can be prepared by the reaction of cuprous iodide with phenylmagnesium bromide or phenyllithium in ethyl ether. Methyl copper can be prepared by reaction of methyl lithium with cuprous iodide at -15℃ or by reaction of copper nitrate with tetramethyl lead in ethanol at -60 ~ -40℃. Grignard's reagent reacts with cuprous halide to produce hydrocarbon copper. Cuprous halide can be cuprous iodide, cuprous bromide and cuprous chloride.

In addition to its general use as a reagent, cuprous iodide is also used as a material in the production of conductive layers for electrically heated paper, as a disinfectant in medicine, as a temperature measuring agent in mechanical bearings, and for trace analysis of mercury. Toxicity: long-term repeated contact with the body is harmful, direct contact with the body should be avoided. Ingestion is very harmful to the body.
