Bacitracin zinc is a complex formed by bacitracin and zinc ion. It is a polypeptide antibiotic and is the most widely used antibiotic feed additive at present. Zinc content is generally in the range of 2% ~ 12%. Synthetic products are white or slightly yellow powder, with a special odor, easy deliquescence to weak alkaline substances, soluble in water, methanol, ethanol. Bacitracin zinc has strong antibacterial effect on gram-positive bacteria and some gram-negative bacteria. Using bacitracin zinc in the complete feed of pigs can promote growth rate, increase feed return, and prevent bacterial diarrhea and chronic respiratory diseases of pigs. The additive concentration is generally effective in the range of 10 ~ 100mg/kg, beyond which the effect is not significantly improved. Bacitracin zinc is generally not absorbed in the intestinal tract of pigs, so there is no residue problem. It is a safe and reliable antibiotic drug additive. Bacitracin zinc is highly toxic and poorly absorbed by the intestine, so it cannot be used as a treatment for systemic infections.

 

Polypeptide antibiotics, gram-positive bacteria have strong antibacterial effect, to a few gram-negative bacteria, spirochetes and actinomycetes and penicillin resistant staphylococcus also have antibacterial effect. The antibacterial mechanism is to inhibit the formation of bacterial cell wall and damage bacterial cytoplasm membrane. It can promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract, increase the permeability of intestinal mucosa, and promote the absorption of nutrients. It is mainly used to promote the growth of livestock and poultry, prevent and cure bacterial diarrhea of livestock and poultry and pig blood dysentery caused by treponema. Bacitracin zinc is hardly absorbed when taken orally, and most of it is discharged in feces within 2 days, so it is not easy to remain in livestock and poultry products. Bacteria rarely develop resistance to bacitracin, and have no cross-resistance with other antibiotics, and have synergistic effects with penicillin, streptomycin, neomycin, aureomycin, polymyxins and so on. This product is too toxic to be administered by injection. Contraindicated with quinolindox, guitamycin, virginiamycin and enlamycin.
